Use an official port of entry
A foreign yacht should make first landfall at a designated Egyptian port of entry and complete Customs, immigration and health formalities before visiting another harbour. Port Said or Alexandria normally serve Mediterranean arrivals, Port Ghalib or Hurghada serve southern Red Sea arrivals, and Suez serves the canal south entrance.
Appoint a licensed maritime agent
Egyptian yacht formalities are handled through a licensed maritime agent in practice, and commercial-port authorities generally coordinate with the agent. At Port Ghalib, use one of the marina-approved licensed agents. Arrange representation well before arrival.
Register at least 72 hours ahead
Foreign yachts must be registered through Egypt’s official Yacht Single Window at least 72 hours before reaching the first port of entry. The submission includes vessel, crew, passport and previous-port-clearance records; confirm the current upload requirements with the appointed agent.
Confirm visas for every crew member
Immigration completes crew entry formalities at the port of entry. Many eligible nationalities can obtain a 30-day visa on arrival and e-visas may be available, but every person should confirm the rule for their nationality and travel document before sailing.
Customs and yacht movements
Customs temporarily admits the yacht and may board on arrival. The registration should identify it as a pleasure yacht or craft. Current movement permissions and any sailing permit naming the next Egyptian destination should be confirmed, because policy and implementation have changed since 2022.
Suez Canal transit formalities
The Suez Canal Authority administers yacht transit. Small craft take a pilot, do not transit at night and normally stop at Ismailia between canal sections. The agent coordinates measurement, documents, scheduling and the current SCA charges or incentives.
Respect restricted and protected waters
Do not anchor near military facilities or enter restricted coastal zones. Marine protected areas, including Ras Mohammed, have separate anchoring controls. Follow the route and stopping guidance confirmed by the agent and relevant authorities.
Obtain exit clearance before sailing
Complete outbound clearance through the agent before departure and allow enough time for centrally processed approvals. Procedures, tariffs and port designations change, so confirm the current sequence rather than relying on an earlier visit report.
